Setting intentions

One of my favourite bits of writing starts with the line: “Until one is committed…” You may well know it and if not, it is worth a quick google search.

The essence of the piece is the understanding that as we get clear and focused with our intentions, then a whole bunch of things in the universe start to come together to support where we are heading.

When it comes to looking after your animals, be it your pets or farm or stables, then setting your intention is a very powerful and helpful thing to do. Anyone who is familiar with the Holistic Lifepath approach will know that I am a great fan of the Time Line. As you will know, Time Lines can go in both directions.  Looking backwards, they can be a very useful tool to track where things have come from.  Here we are looking forwards. It’s a brand new year ahead, and now is a great time to get focused on what your intentions are for the animals in your care.

For pet owners it may be looking a the stages of the year and the different seasons. Maybe it’s the dog walks you plan. Or perhaps the natural approaches to flea control in the summer. Perhaps you are thinking about moving to a BARF diet. It is likely there will be many things to do with what you are aiming to achieve to support your pets being healthy.

As a farmer, you will be very familiar with the cycle of the year. Most farmers have a breeding cycle for their livestock that they have to work with. This, combined with a back drop of the seasons, is a great start to mapping out the year ahead.  If you are familiar with natural medicines, then you can start to see where they might fit in to help your livestock cope better with the challenges of the year.

For stable owners, there may be all number of events, competitions, long distance rides that you want aim towards. Or perhaps there is a training schedule you will be working with. Again all of this on the back drop of the cycle of the year.

Whatever your plans, remember how in charge you can be. Alongside the all important focus on Prevention and Preparation, start to set some intentions of how you want it to be. And don’t forget to include yourself in the plans! Perhaps you want to develop your skills and knowledge around various things that support good health. It may be Green Level improvements by creating better husbandry.  Or Amber Level improvements by learning more about herbs or homeopathy.

Putting the kettle on, making a cuppa, then sitting down with a clean sheet of paper or notebook can be the first step towards an amazing year ahead. Have fun planning.
