Homeopathic remedies in the treatment of sheep

When the email arrived in my inbox I got quite excited. An invitation to speak on homeopathy for sheep over in Canada. That would be exciting and an excuse for an adventure. Then the reality of the human challenge with a pandemic dawned on me. For 2022 the conference was going to go digital. Once I got over my desire for travel everything started to click into action like a smooth running machine. Lorie Smith, the coordinator, did an absolutely excellent job of of supporting me with all the steps on the way, right up to and including the day itself.

The conference itself was the Grey Bruce Farmers’ Week, which is now in its 56th year, provides an annual conference to share information on a wide variety of topics with the farmers in Canada.  Necessity has meant that the last two years have gone digital.  On the flip side, this means that farmers from a much wider area can access the presented material.

The topic itself was “Homeopathic remedies in the treatment of sheep”. This is something that is dear to my heart, knowing a number of farmers trained in homeopathy who use it very successfully to support their sheep in staying in good health.

It is always a challenge to know how much to pack in to a very short period of time. Professional homeopaths take at least four years to be trained. Nonetheless, it is amazing how quickly farmers, who are already professionals at looking after their livestock, can pick up the basics in homeopathy and start to create results.

I elected to cover some of the basics:

  • The essence of a whole health approach.

  • How homeopathy can fit into the strategy.

  • Some key areas where UK shepherds find it helpful:

    • Accidents & Injuries

    • Lambing

    • Young Lambs

    • Lameness

    • Infectious Diseases

  • How to learn more

By the end of the session, the aim was to support the farmers to be empowered in knowing how they can start using homeopathy as a new tool in their toolbox and where they can find other resources to learn more.

The session went down very well. There were many interesting questions at the end and several of the farmers went on to join the new Whole Heath Agriculture Farm Health Hub and Learning Centre. The Farm Health Hub and Learning Centre is a fantastic resource for any farmer wanting to learn more about homeopathy on the farm.

Sheep are well known for hiding their symptoms until it is too late and then they are seriously ill. With homeopathy there is the opportunity to step in early on nip things in the bud. If you want to learn more about homeopathy for your sheep, check the links below.
