Whole Health Agriculture: Birthing webinar

With a fitting play on words, today marked the birth of the Whole Health Agriculture webinar series. We chose birth because it is particularly relevant at this time of year with lambing and spring calving just getting under way.

We chose a format of chatting with experienced sheep farmer Lynnie Hutchison about the variety of problems that can come up through the breeding cycle and looked a was of minimising these with the support of natural medicines.

Birth is a crucial part of all farming enterprises. If birth is not done well, then there will be many consequences that ripple on down the line. Even for farmers that just buy in young stock to rear and don’t get involved directly in the breeding cycle, there is a dependance on the farmers who provided the young stock in the first place.

As a Whole Health webinar, we started by reviewing the Traffic Light Model for health, reminding farmers to always consider if veterinary input is needed, then to check husbandry, before moving on to look at what natural medicines may be useful.

The webinar progressed moving methodically from the pre-breeding preparation, onward through pregnancy, then to pre-birth and birth itself.  Then we considered how to support the mother after the birth experience and also the young animal to help it get off to a good start.

The webinar was very well attended and had lots of good feedback form the participants.  If you would like to find out how to hear the recording, check out the WHAg Website.
